When I came to Christ, I had never read the Bible much less memorized a verse. Bob Eckhart encouraged me to start memorizing scripture. Not only would this help me to grow in my faith but protect my heart and mind.
The way I did my Scripture memorization was the old-fashioned way. I bought a stack of 3x5 cards, and whenever I was reading the Bible and a verse jumped off the page and grabbed my soul, I’d write the verse on one side of the card and write the reference—chapter and verse—on the other.
Then I carried ten cards with me every day. Whenever I had a few free minutes—eating lunch, sitting in a doctor’s office, waiting in line—I’d pull out those cards and work on memorizing both the verse and the reference.
Once I mastered those ten, I moved them to my “completed” stack and started learning ten more. Every two weeks, I’d sit down one evening and review all the verses in my completed stack, so I didn’t lose them.
That’s it. Nothing fancy—just hard work, consistency, and determination.
The Holy Spirit opened my heart and mind and after a few months, I had memorized over 600 verses!
To this day, I can still quote most of those verses. PTL! That season of Scripture memorization reprogrammed my mind and heart for the Lord, and it can do the same for you.

Your word I have hidden in my heart, That I might not sin against You. Psalm 119:11
